Salt Fork

My in-laws have a camping place out in Salt Fork.  My husband has camped there since he was a kid.

We've been out there so many times over the years.  It's a good place to get your fix of hiking, boating, campfires and stargazing.

A day trip is just right for me, but they like to go full boar overnight camping for several nights.  I love the pictures they bring back.

Last week they returned with these great end-of-summer photos.

Mexico part dos

The continuing story of our adventures in Mexico...

One of our favorite places to visit in Mexico is a marine park called Xel Ha.  You can snorkel with the fish, walk on the beach, have lunch, float down the river, and take a nap in a hammock.
one of the many snorkeling coves in Xel Ha

This place is absolutely incredible and you must go if you are ever down there.

Xel Ha has a lot of private little cove lookouts where you can sit and sip your margarita and soak up the gloriousness.
heaven

On our first Mexico trip, we took an excursion which visited Talum in the morning, and then Xel Ha in the afternoon.  Both are amazing.  On our second trip, we wanted a whole day at Xel Ha.

Mexico

Mexico!  ahhhhh, Mexico.
Mayan ruins at Talum

I love your balmy nights, your Gulf, your tropical flora & fauna...
don't know what they are, but they were cute

I will admit, the two times I've been to Mexico, I've stayed at the same all-inclusive resort.  So not an authentic Mexico experience.  Nor a varied one.  But I love frou-frou vacations.
beautiful Mexico

Our first trip was in the fall a few years ago for our 10 year anniversary.  And then we went again with friends and family this past winter.  Both times we stayed at the Valentin Imperial Maya.  Love it love it love it.

The resort is south of Cancun, north of Playa del Carmen, in an area called the Mayan Riviera. My first painting is of the beach at Valentin Imperial Maya.

Marco Island part 2

Another post about our trip to Marco Island...

Before our trip, my friend Jeff was giving us all sorts of tips on where to go and what to see.   Check out the book he put together!

One tip was to check out Caxambas Marina.  We took a dolphin cruise out of there that was excellent.

We took about a million pictures of all the dolphins.  But we also got some lovely non-dolphin pictures.  Here's my painting of a bird we spotted during the cruise.

Marco Island

Marco Island is on the southern tip of Florida on the Gulf side.  We rented a beachfront condo at Sea Winds  last winter.

the view from our condo
I love renting a condo right on the beach because it places us at ground zero for our vacation goals:  morning coffee on a balcony over looking at the ocean, jog along the ocean, nap and read on the beach, ocean side cocktails, observe boats and wildlife, fall asleep listening to the ocean.

On one of our "out and about" days, we visited the Conservancy of Southwestern Florida's Nature Center and took a boat tour.  We also drove around town to look at some of the mansions.

I would go back to Marco Island in a heart beat.  It's pretty much everything I need - white sand beaches, beautiful tropical landscape, ocean animals...    In my first Marco Island painting, I wanted to remember hanging out on the dock and watching the wildlife.

Pelee Island part 2

I painted a second picture from our trip to Pelee Island...
12"x12"x0.75" acrylic on canvas

We took a lot of beautiful sunset photos on the lake.  I wanted to capture the serene feeling and the dusk colors without it being cheesy.  You know what I mean?  It seems like sunset paintings can go tacky really easily.  I'm happy with how it turned out though.  Hope you like it, too!

September wallpaper

I'll refuse to accept that summer's over until maybe Halloween.  But I can't deny that it's after Labor Day, pools are closing, and I'm starting to look at winter getaway vacation choices.

Here's some wallpaper for your desktop that has a September back-to-school vibe.  Click the one with the dimensions you want to view the full sized image.  Then right click the full sized image to save it as your wallpaper.
